Members of the Sunshine Coast Society for the Hunting, Recognition and Observation of Mushrooms (SC SHROOM) are almost giddy with delight this year. Those fall rains that signalled the end of summer produced an abundance of fungi in our forests, and SHROOMers are taking full advantage.
Share in the fun at the fifth annual Sunshine Coast Mushroom Festival, October 18–20. On Saturday the 19th, 11–3, mushrooms of every description will fill Pender Harbour’s community hall, and IDers will be on hand to help people figure out their fungal finds. Guest speaker Robert Rogers, author of The Fungal Pharmacy: the Complete Guide to Medicinal Mushrooms and Lichens of North America, will share his knowledge over the weekend, speaking at the Roberts Creek Hall, 7 pm October 18; at a gourmet dinner with wine pairings October 19; and on two forays, October 18 and 20.
