Finding a fine-art, photojournalistic photographer for her own wedding was a struggle, leaving Kim knowing she needed to start her own photography business. Starting in travel and photojournalism, she fell in love with the ability of a photograph to tell a story. As a trained psychologist, her understanding of human interaction gives her the unique ability to manoeuvre wedding-day exuberance without getting caught up in the anxiety. She has practised the art of anticipating special moments and will be ready to capture yours. Twenty years behind a camera has provided an ability to see with one eye through the lens while the other eye constantly scans the room for the next meaningful shot. She is a consummate professional, forever passionate about documenting a love story.
Kim builds a relationship with her clients from the beginning, making sure she gets to know the couple and their style. Being honest and educating couples allows them to be a part of the process and to make informed decisions about how their memories will be represented. Emphasis is placed on a conservative plan, thus creating space to reduce inevitable wedding-day stresses and allowing the loving emotions of the couple to shine through. She values how important the photographer’s role is to a couple and connects to that spirit. Conscious of the couple’s wedding-day vision, she sets about to capture their story without having to use a script, rather using real emotions created through authentic moments.

Maru Photography continues to grow organically. Photographing a commercial wedding shoot in Paris, Kim was in need of models. She put out a request for help from Paris-based wedding planners and surprisingly, not only did she get models, she connected with another artist. Together they created a workshop, L’Artisan, which is now entering its second successful year.
Kim’s love of travel has inspired her to take on more destination weddings. With families spread across the world, smaller, intimate ceremonies are being celebrated. Last year took her to Iceland, Germany, and Grand Cayman, as well as to our own magical Sunshine Coast.
