Tessa Rand grew up in Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast. She obtained a degree in 3D Animation from the Art Institute in Vancouver, where she met her husband. After moving back to the Coast in 2007, she joined a collective of self-taught metal artists who call themselves the Martopian Collective. Tessa, a “mompreneur” who works out of her home studio in Gibsons, was accepted in 2010 into the Aspire program, which assists self-employed business owners.
Drawing inspiration from natural and manmade items such as insect wings and vintage watch parts, Tessa creates her jewelry with the intention of personifying and empowering its wearer. She is best known for making crystal keys, which can be found at Shanti Gifts and The Woods Showcase here on the Coast.
