Oh, the birds! Herons and eagles and hawks and ducks and seabirds of all kinds. Sue Harper’s photographs are full of the passion and affinity she feels for her natural subjects.
Gigi Hoeller’s finely wrought images of flowers, landscapes, wood carvings, and totems call to mind the work of Georgia O’Keeffe (the 20th-century American painter best known for her extreme and sensuous close-ups of flowers).
Melanie Fogell’s engaging and diverse paintings reflect a rich and storied life. Colourful and reminiscent of the Fauves (early 20th-century painters who emphasized colour and the characteristics of the paint itself, rather than focusing on representation), her work is also strongly influenced by music.
Through his large paintings—some of them as long as eight feet—de Beer seeks also to challenge the way art is “placed on a pedestal out of reach for the majority of normal people.
The “off” season on the Sunshine Coast brings so many delights. The creeks and streams have filled with autumn rains and the salmon are returning! Fishers in waders line the shores near the mouths of creeks, and kayakers troll past, rods balanced on their knees.
