Inside a two-storey structure in Roberts Creek, which received a Green Design Award from the Canadian Wood Council in 2010, Nicolas Meyer designs and crafts custom spaces. Operating under his business name, Nico Spacecraft, he and his wife, Jess, established a successful design studio producing kitchens, furniture, interiors, and architectural elements. Clients range from private homeowners, architects, and agencies to fellow designers, craftspeople, and artists. Nico Spacecraft’s work earned international recognition for unique designs, precision work, and a focus on sustainability long before the “green trend” became popular.

Nicolas grew up in Hamburg, Germany, to a real-estate–developing father and a mother in antiques; he was exposed to architecture, construction, and furniture throughout his youth. He later moved to Basel, Switzerland, a center for the arts. Living in the heart of Europe, twenty minutes from Germany’s Vitra Museum, Nicolas had access to practically everything he desired to shape his career. He trained as a maker of fine furniture before becoming a designer. After moving to Vancouver, he worked for companies such as Spearhead Timberworks and Kurt Sanders Ltd. before starting his own venture with Jess in 1997.
