Shinyu Unopia, owner of One Flower One Leaf Gallery in Gibsons, has been a ZOOM fan for many years. Upon learning that 2020 would mark the tenth anniversary of the magazine, she suggested an exhibition to mark the occasion. A big opening was planned for April, with music and food (collective sigh) but, as with some many events, this had to be postponed indefinitely, and even early 2021 doesn’t look promising for a gathering. The show is going on, however, minus the reception and with the latest protocols in place.
Stop by One Flower One Leaf Gallery’s Sunnycrest Mall location to see some of ZOOM’s favourite artists showcased in “10”: 10 photographers, 10 visual artists, 10 artisans.
What we want to do is celebrate. In fact, what Unopia and ZOOM’s creator, Edmund Arceo, have put together is a celebration of the magazine’s ongoing celebration of Sunshine Coast artists.
Arceo has long felt a calling and a responsibility to showcase the deep creative talent on the Sunshine Coast. He uses his love for this area, his sharp curatorial eye, and his deft graphic design talents to present our Coast creators in ZOOM magazine’s stunning layouts.
The list of participating artists reads like a Who’s Who in the Sunshine Coast arts scene. All of them have been featured in past issues of ZOOM: Morley Baker, Jeff Barringer, Anna May Bennett, Keith Burdon, Cindy Cantelon, Liz de Beer, Elizabeth A. Evans, Claire Folstad, Allan Forest, Mikel Grant, Bob James, Sheila June, Lucas Kratochwil, Vern Minard, Motoko, Pam Mullins, Sherry Nelsen, Shel Neufeld, Peter Nicholls, Carl Olsen, Cindy Riach, Linda Sabiston, Conrad Sarzynick, Pia Sillem, Patrick Skidd, Autumn Skye, Dean van’t Schip, Brett Varney, Dolf Vermeulen, and Patrick West.
The exhibition will run November 20 to December 15. Please enjoy this abundance of diverse and beautiful art.
